The Cure for Man Flu

The Cure for Man Flu

Until now I have had one response to Man flu and it is something like this picture below, normally because what men call flu, is simply the cold I had last week, while looking after the kids, who both had the same thing. That’s another thing, why do men always get ill in a window where everyone else is just about well enough to wait on them hand and foot?

I had a little more sympathy when I read that scientists have proved men do suffer more, because their immune systems are weaker. Benenden Health also took to Twitter to find out where the highest concentrations of Manflu are. Right now Nottingham seems safe, but there seem to be a lot of men in North West England and South Wales moaning about, sorry, I mean suffering from, man flu.

We all know men like to fix problems rather than listen to them, so no reason to listen to the complaints about man flu, just get one of these down him pronto!

Alright, I may have exaggerated slightly, this is more the prevention than the cure for man flu, we all know the answer lies in hand washing, keeping your immune system in tip top condition and in dousing yourself in flu and cold fighting super foods. Beneden Health suggest blueberries, watercress, kale, beetroot, garlic and ginger are all fab for keeping up immunity so I whacked some together in the Nutribullet I bought myself to cheer me up in January, but a blender is great too.

Blueberry, beetroot, ginger and kale smoothie – The cure for man flu

Ingredients

  • 1 cm piece of grated fresh ginger
  • 1 medium raw beetroot
  • half an apple or apple juice – depending what your blender can cope with
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • A couple of kale leaves (to taste)
  • You may need some water if using an apple and not apple juice.

Method

  1. Peel and grate the ginger and peel the beetroot
  2. All it all to the blender and whizz
  3. Enjoy!
