My Week to View: 10 Downing St to Olympic Park

Team Honk were invited to another #secretthing last week. Have a sneak behind the scenes with my #weektoviewDSC02072

Annie, Tanya and I travelled to London with husbands in tow as plus ones. Daddy Barrow has been involved in fundraising both years, while Pappasaurus and Mr A have held the fort with the little ones. All three have been an amazing support while we have organised, fundraised, travelled and blogged our hearts out for Comic Relief.

Behind every good woman…

How strange and ‘normal’ to just be sat in a pub beforehand chatting as three couples. We were all feeling a bit nervous as we walked to Number 10.

DSC02073 But also excited!

Sophie, Comic Relief’s National Media Manager (in the gorgeous blue frock), was waiting for us. she looks a little nervous, will Team Honk behave inside number 10?

Here’s what happened, sadly they take your phone and camera off you inside Number 10, but the official video features us in action.

Number 10 is incredible inside, like a rabbit warren that opens up, it really does feel huge. Did you know it actually has about 100 rooms? The main staircase led us past photographs of all Britain’s Prime Ministers. The art on the walls is a really eclectic mix, from a pink neon light over the door by Tracy Emin to much older oil paintings of politicians gone by.

We gathered in three interlinked rooms overlooking the gardens, and I think St James Park, there wasn’t much time to concentrate on what was beyond the room.

We enjoyed the drinks and canapes and behaved really well all the way through talking to David Cameron, Davina, Jo Whiley and Richard Curtis. Jo was so impressed she even invited Team Honk to join her on her show during her Sport Relief challenge. Richard’s words really inspired me.

The relief and joy here as we leave to do the all important shot outside is clearly visible…
DSC02077 Then there is time for selfies…

DSC02082 a bit of silliness

The rush to get the all important door shot on Twitter and facebook

A chance to share the moment with the men in our lives…

A last look back

Then it is all over! But not quite, we were in The Independent on Tuesday…

And on East Midlands today…

Afterwards, rather than feeling elated,  I felt really down, but I couldn’t think why. I realised I missed being able to tell my Mum, so I wrote this post over on my new blog space Little Legacy.

The rest of the week was a down to earth with a bang one, unblocking toilets, replacing a vacuum cleaner, solo parenting while Mr A was in San Francisco.

John Lewis invited me to their beauty event. The last few weeks, missing mum it all got the better of me, I was exhausted, but it did me the world of good. Shopping when you are hell bent on ending world poverty is a guilt ridden experience, but sometimes, looking after yourself has to take priority. I bought a couple of old favourites and picked up some lovely travel size samples, ready for the next adventure.

Then it was all about gearing up to the Cruise Show on Saturday. It was amazing seeing ourselves on the telly at the Carnival Cruise Lines stand. The final promotional videos are coming very soon.

As our ambassadorship as the #funnestfamily comes to an end I find myself flicking through the Carnival brochure, thinking would I take another Carnival Cruise? The answer is a wholehearted yes. This one, with whales and maybe even bears, looks awesome, there is no way you would get to these remote parts of Alaska without a ship. And the prices are great too.

Sunday was Sport Relief. I did the whole shattering 6 miles. I was only on 2.5 miles two weeks ago so it felt like a big achievement to run it all. Gin at the finish with Actually Mummy. I look like a pensive tomato!

The kids and my brother were super proud of their medal for doing a mile and 3 miles respectively. More on that in another post!

Now forgive me if I go and do this, that was one epic #weektoview!

Thanks so much for all the support, sponsorship and encouragement of #teamhonkrelay and huge congrats to all that took part. You are amazing! We are on £26,500 for Sport Relief as I type this, which is incredible! Still time to donate here

Also, I was going to run #weektoview as a linky but I realised I just don’t have the headspace to do that justice right now. Forgive me, perhaps when my weeks are less epic.

Wow it’s been a MAD week when you look at it like this! It was so lovely to be able to enjoy Downing Street with each other and our husbands – they support so much but rarely get a thank you or a glimpse into the insanity of Team Honk. So proud of you for everything and well done on the running.
