So I did it, the Red Nose Day Danceathon with Team Honk, and it was amazing. All those months of cajoling fellow bloggers and their friends, of organising and promoting and encouraging fund raising. After coming back from Kenya with Comic Relief earlier in the year, I was determined to make a real difference with fundraising.

The only thing I was sad about was I wished more of the amazing people in my life could have been there too. It was such a liberating, joyous, life changing, world altering occasion and I would have liked to share it with my husband, my kids, my Dad, my brother, my family, all my friends. I thought often of some friends who couldn’t be there for health reasons, and for a fleeting moment I was hit by a wave of ‘I wish my Mum could be here she would bloody love this’. My Mum loved to dance. But I did share this amazing day with some incredible people, who must be sore and proud in equal parts today.

Top moments at the Danceathon

2000 people all doing Michael Jackson’s thriller, the man who taught us this has to be some kind of dance teaching legend, to control 2000 zombies.

Diva dancing was my guilty pleasure, so proud to be able to add Britney’s Toxic and Beyonce’s Single Ladies to my •cough* repertoire. Our besuited instructor was an ex Ministry of Sound podium dancer and he knew how to strut his stuff.

Swag was really excellent fun, basically lots of swagger and attitude (like all the pop videos I ban my kids from watching).

Pulling lots of silly faces kicked in at this point

90s rave was a bit of a trip down memory lane. Big fish, little fish, cardboard box, stack the shelves and bicycle pump were the key moves. I’m a bit gutted my time laspse film of this ended up too short to post on Instagram, ah well, here is me and Joanne instead!

Bashment, (aka Jaimaican Dance hall, according to Wikepedia) was great fun, lots of winding and grinding our already aching booties to pass the Dutchie

Looking after Aly, from Bug Bird Bee‘s son in the under 16’s area. He never stopped, moaned or took a break - kids that do stuff for charity like this are incredible, If you want someone amazing to sponsor, make his day here.

Dancing, especially to the musical theatre section with Jen and Sarah and their friend, two incredible people trained to teach Drama with, many moons ago.

8. Travelling with Jaime from Oliver’s Madhouse, who I also had the pleasure of doing a leg of the relay with last year - getting lost in the Derbyshire wilderness is a real way to bond with someone. Jaime arrived at my house at 5am and left at 11.30pm, via an epic 6 hours dancing at Wembley, let’s just say it was emotional. She even put up with me bursting into Jai Ho all the way home.

Black Lane offered us a ride in a business people carrier, and I have never been so happy not to have to get on a tube. Our clean and comfortable car made a great changing room on the way there and even had room for Marissa and Andrea to join us, and was a sight for sore feet on the way home. I didn’t even know my own name, never mind where I was heading, and suddenly everything ached, so I was super grateful for our drivers who were polite, courteous and very smooth drivers.

Just dancing - through funk, soul, pop, 80s, with all the incredible Team Honkers, some of whom we caught here, and with all the amazing members of the public who took part, it really is an awe inspiring, joyous thing to see so many people brought together to dance, and change the world.
