Eating out in Nottingham - George’s Fish and Chip Kitchen

We wrenched ourselves from our Sherwood Hideaway, and the hot tub for a day out exploring Nottingham City Centre.

George’s Fish and Chip Kitchen, Nottingham

I will make a confession, because we have a take-away George’s where I live, I assumed the restaurant in the city centre would serve fish and chips, but not much more. So when we had car problems on Sunday, I just assumed it would be fine to turn up a bit late. So imagine my embarrassment when we turned up an hour late, to find George’s Fish and Chip Kitchen is a jaw-droppingly-incredible- beside-the-seaside-themed-palace of a chip kitchen, and it was full to bursting. The manager smiled though, told us not to worry, and offered us a seat in the bar while she tried to free up a table.

The barman was ever so friendly and told us the bar has become a night spot in its own right, serving the best of British cocktails. This is the flagship and first George’s Kitchen, with more hopefully popping up in Northern cities soon. I was already loving the industrial fisherman’s lights, more on the decor in a post on A Residence. Nottingham is about as land locked as you get in the UK - it is such a sticking point that every year the council make a beach happen in Market Square - so I love that George’s have brought the great British seaside to us all year round.

The kitchen area is screened off by cabinets full of British seaside memorabilia.

And then we spotted these, beach hut booths, on the mezzanine floor. But…had we lost our chance of a beach hut because we were late. Please NOOOOO!

It was worth the 20 minute wait, because we got Padstow! Yippee! Cue a celebratory fish fight, with fish cushions!

We loved the menus, printed like newspapers. Tempting!

The kids menus went down a treat, sadly neither of mine went for the Under 8s menu, which comes served in a bucket, with spade!

We were so excited, and then we discovered there were selfie sticks hung everywhere! Woo hoo, cue more silliness!

The kids loved the activity sheets and they were clever ones, that actually kept them amused independently - so we could peruse the menu in peace.

The food was great, Mr A went for pie and chips, rather than fish and chips, due to his doubled battered fish frenzy at Clumber Park Hotel the day before. I went for a spicy chick pea burger and root vegetable chips. It’s always good to find a proper homemade veggie burger and an alternative to potato chips YUMMY!

Puddings were another source of great excitement. All of them come served with candy floss! My rhubarb fool was everything I dreamed of and more. It was like my 80s childhood on a platter.

We loved looking out from our hut and people and kitchen watching. In fact, we loved everything about George’s.
