Clarins at Eden Hall Spa: a Match Made in Heaven

Clarins paired up with Eden Hall Spa, in Nottinghamshire this month, aligning Clarins’ many years of luxury skin and body care expertise with Eden Hall’s knowledge of what makes a spa break truly nurturing. I love going to Eden Hall Spa, it truly is an escape, yet embraces all the touches that make you feel at home in a luxury environment – blankets, lanterns, fluffy cushions, offers of cups of tea or coffee.

If Eden Hall was a hotel it would probably be called ’boutique’, the decor is stylish and modern with lots of quirky uniqueness – there is something I find really reassuring about cushions and throws that are different patterns and textures, and sofas arranged into huddles conducive to lazy catching up with friends or family. It sounds silly, but when I returned from my treatment and picked up a throw to relax under, I noticed how it was unique, and that made me feel unique too. It’s all too easy to feel like another person trying to find peace when you go to a spa.

Starting my day snuggled in the conservatory in a fluffy robe under fleece blankets, reclined on sofa, nestled in soft cushions, watching the October rain drizzle down the windows outside, has to be my idea of Winter mood lifting perfection. My smoothie and fruit toast were the icing on that cake.

The Spa Areas

Of course we made the most of the spa areas during our visit too, I love the different steam rooms and the salt water pool. I must be a little too at home at Eden after a few visits, because we were asked to be a little quieter at one point  – I was a little excited to see a friend there I wasn’t expecting to bump into! I really enjoyed meeting a group of teachers in the outdoor jacuzzi, if anyone needs a spa day it is a group of teachers. The outdoor jacuzzi seems to be absolutely conducive to putting the world to rights, our last two visits have involved doing just that. Spas are the perfect place to talk things over, in the morning, then it’s impossible to let things that are bothering you drift away as you fully unwind. That’s exactly what happened in my treatment…

My treatment: Clarins Full Body Rebalancing Massage, Wake Up Blend

Using a bespoke sequence of energising movements and pressure point technique, this deep and rhythmic massage not only releases muscular knots and tensions, but restores vitality and flagging energy levels. The effect is intensified with an essential oil blend of invigorating Rosemary, Mint and Rosewood

My Clarins full body rebalancing massage was wonderful. I opted for ‘Wake Up’ rather than ‘Chill Out’ but Jen from Love Chic Living tested the Chill Out. The rosemary, mint and rosewood Body Treatment Oil really soothed some achey post gym muscles, and while I left feeling relaxed I also felt a strong sense of rebalancing, mentally and physically.

The massage involved deep massage, but also incorporated stimulating pulse points and gentle stretching of the limbs too. My arms were massaged, points on my hands gently pressed and then my whole arm lifted into a gentle stretch. The same for legs, having the limbs stretched and manipulated as well as massaged feels a little like that feeling you get from a pilates class, when you leave feeling taller and calmer.

It’s a unique combination of massage techniques which worked powerfully for me. I am not a fan of massages that leave me feeling so relaxed all I can do is sleep, but this left me feeling very focussed – mentally I felt the fog clear, later in the the gym that night I felt like my body was able to work much harder too.

The Three Course Lunch

I enjoyed chatting to Executive Head Chef Ian who has been working to make the menus at Eden Hall more adaptable. All the recipes can easily be adjusted to suit diner preferences and dietary requirements.  Knowing 3 of our party were vegetarian, he was keen to discuss options for us – they all sounded delicious.

The salad bar definitely had more varied tastes and combinations.

My favourite part of the meal was the Cauliflower and Cheddar Velouté (soup) with home made bread, another of Ian’s introductions and one I throughly approve of.  All the home made breads, which you can tuck into at the serve yourself salad bar, were delicious.

Next course I chose the salad with oyster mushrooms, puy lentils, roasted pears, walnut, wild rocket, pea shoots and sun blush tomato oil. I asked for something other than Oyster Mushrooms, and was offered a selection of toppings, I went for artichoke and green bean. I didn’t quite capture it’s majesty here, but the presentation was excellent.

Pudding was divine. Chocolate Hazelnut Brownie with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Spa indulgence back at home…

Eden Hall has an online shop as well as the shop being open to non guests, with Christmas approaching it was lovely to have a browse for gift ideas.

I came home with some wonderful products to try at home, Eau Dynamisante is the iconic fragrance my treatment was based on.  It is quite strong at first, but like most scents I am not sure about initially, it has really grown on me; it mellows out into a fresh and energising scent and encourages that same feeling of focus I felt in my treatment. Mr A loves it too and it is unisex. The Eau Dynamisante shower mousse is gorgeous, great for dry wintery skin and a great way to layer the scent.

The first fragrance and body treatment in one spa-fresh formula. This invigorating aroma for women and men, moisturises, firms and tones with essential oils of Lemon, Patchouli, Petit Grain, Ginseng and White Tea.

But the piece de resistance has to be the bottle of Relax Body Treatment Oil, as used in my treatment, I just need to book Mr A on a Clarins massage course now, to learn the secret sequence of massage techniques – so I can continue the luxury at home. He is resisting so I will slather it on my skin  – after the gym as it is good for soothing muscles, it will be great over winter to keep my skin supple and mind soothed too – and book in for a Signature Spa Day at Eden for the both of us.

Oh this sounds wonderful! There’s something very special about taking a day away from the rat race to focus purely on yourself. If only I lived nearer! x

Oh gosh I love Eden Hall! I visited last year, a Mother’s Day present, and spent an entire day alone. It was heavenly. The food is amazing and the Clarins treatments are divine. I’m so not jealous… Much. 😉 Sounds like you had a really lovely day. You deserve it. Xx
