I wasn't sure about today. For various reasons I had to be out the house with my son, my nephew and the dog and as we drove across the peaks to pick up my nephew the rain was lashing horizontally and the poor kids were telling me they weren't leaving the car. There aren't many places you can take two energetic boys and a dog when it rains. But then the sun came out, we found an awesome RSPB reserve and I spent four hours lazing on my raincoat in the sunshine with Max while the boys whittled sticks and made dens. A Mum with a toddler went by and I realised I've reached that delicious point where I can be there and hear their fab games in one ear, but not have to be on full parenting duty. The boys kept telling me to 'Have a nice rest in the sunshine!' They can even be completely trusted with pen knives these days. Bliss! Dogs aren't allowed everywhere here but the play trail is awesome and only £3 to park. Bargain day out.
