I’m embarrassed to admit that in this case I am not referring to my kids’ bedrooms, but to mine. It seems I still haven’t quite mastered the art of putting my clothes away. My bedroom floor consists of piles of clothes strewn over chairs, the floor and the bed.
The problem stems from my wardrobe being a cupboard downstairs and my bedroom being in the attic, if I am going out, then I will try on everything in a flurry, and leave the remnants in a pile to organise later.
The other problem is wearing an outfit for a day or maybe half a day and then, because I can’t bear extra washing, putting it aside to wear another day. Gradually the pile of half worn items grows, until I can’t find anything clean or half-clean to wear.
I’ve promised myself a wardrobe clearout. Everything that doesn’t fit or doesn’t get worn goes, this way there might actually be room in my drawers to put away the real stuff that fits. Plus it might leave me feeling better about what I do have, and more inclined to wear it more than once.
I have just discovered this week that Music Magpie now offer a service by which you can sell clothing, £2.08 for my Gap jeans that for seven years I’ve never bothered to get taken up, £2.48 for the White Stuff cardigan I never wear any more, £1.80 for the Oasis shirt that never really fitted. Small amounts admittedly, but I can see it adding up.
I’ve used Music Magpie for DVDs and CDs and although we are talking small amounts, it builds up. It was also huge relief to get the stuff out the house and convenient to arrange pick up online. Have you tried it for clothes? Do let me know how you got on?
With the money, well, I could spend some time sorting out my clothes, and like the experts tell you to, spend the money on the basic items you are missing to bring several items together.
Do you know what I might buy with it though? No more new clothes. No, a second hand wardrobe. Luckily all the furniture in the room is Edwardian and I have seen just the one I need for a bargain price in a charity shop. Goodbye floordrobe. Hello wardrobe.
