Oh the memories I have of coach trips, on the back seat singing Belinda Carlise’s Circle In the Sand full pelt while travelling to Wales with my primary school class; ferrying weary and tipsy guests back to their hotel after our wedding do; watching the snow fall and the elves leap from behind the trees in Lapland, and snuggling up to my Grandma, trying to stay awake as we sailed under the Blackpool illuminations. The great thing about hiring a coach or minibus is you create an instant sense of community and camaraderie.
As a driver it is easy to default to planning our family holidays around getting in our car and going. Coach trips are easily relegated to something we did in school. But minibus and coach hire opens up all kinds of possibilities, for a more relaxed and fun day or weekend out, allowing more room for friends and family. More recently, going on press trips has reminded me how much fun having a mini bus or coach full of like minded people and a new place to explore can be. When you have kids not having to think about where next can be a marvellous gift.
Chances are there are other people who want to have the same adventures as you, so why not think bigger? Kicking off a coach trip can seem like a responsibility, but with the right coach company and more people on board to share the organisation and planning load it can actually be easier. More people to entertain the kids, means less chance of hearing ‘ I’m bored!’ or “Are we nearly there yet?’. Plus multiple cars on a holiday can be a pain to manoeuvre and you can relax more on the trip itself.
If your friend or family group includes non drivers, or you just fancy sitting back and letting someone else do the navigating, then here are a few ideas that might start a minibus or coach driven plan. I’ve partnered today with SMC Coach Hire, a travel booking agency that specialises in coach and minibus hire. A lot of their bookings are for family holidays and trips, they arrange coach and minibus hire to every location in the UK and Europe, and they are rated 9/10 on Trustpilot with over 489 reviews.
Day Trips and Theme Parks
Fancy all the fun of the city without the navigating or parking? I have fond memories of seeing the Illuminations in Blackpool by coach, day trips to the seaside by coach are popular as are theme park trips. SMC operate across the whole of the UK, regularly do Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Flamingo Land and Legoland and can arrange discounted tickets too.
UK or European tour coach or minibus hire
A weekend break by minibus or coach can give you valuable extra time to switch off or catch up as a friends or family group. Let someone else take the driver’s seat to London or Paris! Perfect for celebrating a landmark birthday or anniversary or catching up with old friends. Coach tours can be anything you want them to be, you can create your own bespoke itinerary. UK wise I would especially recommend touring the Lake District or Scotland, where the scenery is utterly breathtaking and there is plenty to stop and do along the road.
When we teamed up with A Mummy Too and co to go to Amsterdam, it made more sense to share a minibus for two families, than to both drive and pay airport parking. It was much more relaxing not having to worry about parking too and the minibus meant we had more time to chat and get into holiday mode too.
Special Sporting Events
Make an event of it, feel like a team and hire a minibus or coach to take a group of you there and back. Silverstone, Twickenham, Wembley, St Andrews are all regular bookings for SMC.
If you are organising a trip for a sport’s club, Scouts, school or other youth group, SMC can also help.
Weddings, Stag and Hen Dos
For our wedding we used coaches to ferry guests between the venue and hotel. With Stag and Hen dos also getting more and more rural and inventive, (I climbed Snowdon on one once) the last thing you want to be doing is having to have a designated driver or think about navigating.
Have you enjoyed a friends and family minibus or coach trip recently?
