Ibiza is typically known as the ultimate party island, where young people and people without children go to let loose and enjoy some of the most amazing beach-side parties Europe has to offer. However, besides the lavish parties and lively nightlife, Ibiza also offers a nice vacation spot for families with children. There are many activities that are suited for young families and many places where you can feel comfortable bringing your children, whether they’re toddlers or teenagers. Let’s take a look at the top 5 activities that families can engage in while staying in Ibiza.
1. Road trip!
The number one family activity that will not cost you much, and will enable you to have some good family quality time, is exploring Ibiza by car. Go to a local car hire – Ibiza has plenty of options for car rentals. Choose a nice, family-sized car that will handle the diverse terrain and take your kids on an adventure. The best way to discover a place is to get lost, so turn off your GPS and just go where the road takes you. Engage your children in the ride by taking their directions, based on their observations of the surroundings. If you decide to take a safer route and follow a map to the most popular sights that Ibiza is best known for, be sure to play some road-friendly games with your kids while you drive around.
A useful tip: Car hire in Ibiza can be expensive if you don’t book ahead. Be sure to book at least 8 weeks in advance and use a comparison site to get the best deal!
2. Boat trip
After exploring Ibiza on land, the next step is to discover Ibiza’s coastline aboard a tourist boat. Board a glass-bottomed boat where you can enjoy the underwater views– kids and adults alike will be amazed by the marine life hiding in the turquoise waters! The boat ride lasts for 2 – 3 hours and includes a half-hour stop for sunbathing and swimming and drinks onboard while you sightsee. Children under the age of seven go free.
3. Adventure Island
Adventure Island could just as well be another name for Ibiza, since the island has so much to offer in terms of adventurous activities. From scuba diving to paragliding, banana-boat rides and go-karting, to visiting local water parks and adventure parks, you will certainly get your adrenaline rush in Ibiza!
Acrobosc Ibiza is an outdoor adventure park which offers fun activities for adults and children from the age of three upwards. It is located in the midst of pine trees and consists of 39 platforms, 49 obstacles and 20 zip lines and trampolines that guarantee you an adrenaline-filled couple of hours, while you balance across tightropes, slide down zip lines, walk over suspended nets and conquer different obstacles. Safety is an important part of this experience, so you are always strapped into a safety harness, secured onto a cable above you. The difficulty of each course is, of course, adapted to the age of each participant. Maximum fun for each family member is therefore guaranteed!
A useful tip: If you’re planning on visiting the adventure park, don’t forget to pack some cold drinks. The adventure park does not have electricity, so you won’t be able to get cooled beverages on site.
4. Water madness
One thing that you should not miss out on while in Ibiza is watersports and water-related activities. Besides the usual things that you can do on open waters, such as riding pedalos, banana-boat riding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddling, you can also enjoy one of Ibiza’s several high-quality waterparks, which offer a top quality experience for adventure lovers of all ages.
One of the absolute favourites among children and adults alike is Ocean Mania, a unique inflatable floating waterpark, which was inspired by the popular TV series ‘Total Wipeout’. This fun-filled slippery obstacle course is the perfect adventure for children who want to test their balance and skill, as long as they’re strong swimmers and over a meter in height. It stretches over more than 7,000 square feet and includes floating tracks and bridges, slides, slippery balancing beams, trampolines, climbing towers, swinging ropes, high dives and even a free-floating catapult. All participants must wear lifejackets and there are at least two lifeguards on watch at all times. Across from the waterpark, the Ocean Beach Club is located, where you can enjoy a drink or two, while your kids are bouncing and pouncing on the obstacle course.
Another favourite among lovers of water-based activities is the Aguamar waterpark. This is a more classic waterpark, offering a nice selection of pools and diverse waterslides, suited for all ages. There is no age limit for entrance into the waterpark, and even the youngest of kids can enjoy some splashing fun in the children and infant pool as well as on the more sedate rides, where they can be accompanied by their parents. For those seeking a more thrilling experience, there are a few quite fast and furious rides, such as the Kamikaze and the Black Hole. From spiral to jumpy and bumpy, it is guaranteed fun for the whole family! The waterpark also offers plenty of areas to relax or picnic and has a nice restaurant where you can take some time to catch your breath before you slide onto your next adventure.
5. Fun in the sun
After all of the adrenalin-rushed activities that we’ve picked out for you and your family, some leisure time on the beach might feel just right. Choose one of over eighty beautiful sunny beaches in Ibiza and soak up the vitamin D laying in the golden sand and cool in the crystal clear waters. The turquoise water just calls out for a nice swim, some snorkeling, a little paddle boarding or a nice ride on a pedalo and the warm sand is perfect for building a sand castle, getting buried by the kids or just enjoying a nice picnic, playing some cards and reading a good book while letting the sun stroke your skin. You can even find some shade if it gets too hot for you. The perfect end to the perfect trip!
